Winter is finally, finally coming to an end. I mean its still winter...but finally I can unzip my coat a bit and shed my clunky winter boots. The only problem with this time of year is its still cold out-- and my optimism about the weather can leave me not feeling my best.  I mean you go out one time when its not quite warm enough without a proper coat... and yup.

Thursday Plantation sent me this beautiful Winter Rescue kit (that I totally should have posted a few weeks ago, but moving has just really disrupted my content creation-- just wait until I show you all the new place though!) with tea tree, lavender, and eucalyptus essential oils. I wanted to share with you a few ways that I use these oils, because who doesn't love self care + things that smell good?

These oils are 100% natural, 100% pure, and not tested on animals. The brand is based in sunny Australia!

My favourite way to use lavender oil is to gently press it into my temples, and then to give myself a scalp massage. It just completely relaxes me, and leaves me feeling so calm and soothed. I also really enjoy adding a few drops to my bath. Lately I have been adding some coconut oil and lavender oil together for a silky-soft bath.

Thankfully I have not had much of a need for tea tree oil lately. However when I was a teen and would get the odd bit of acne I would apply the oil to a q-tip and then press it on as a spot treatment. It would always make the problem go away within a day or two! Also great for cold sores. Now my favourite way to use this oil is to add a few drops to a freshly boiled bowl of water. I then wrap a towel around the top of the bowl and over my face and then breathe in. The warm steam mixed with the oil is a great decongestant.

Finally, eucalyptus oil. I love using a few drops in a bath when I want to feel really clean and relaxed. I learned that you can add a few drops to distilled water to make a disinfecting spray you can use around the house. Canadian blog Tea & Nail Polish says that the disinfecting spray also works as a cat deterrent. As an aspiring cat owner, I will be keeping this information, and my essential oil, on hand.

My all time favourite way to use essential oils is to add them to homemade soaps. While I don't often get to do it, I love making soap with my boyfriend's mom as a relaxing and creative way to have some fun!

A gentle reminder to be careful with essential oils. They are strong, so I don't recommend using them by themselves. Add then to carrier oils such as coconut oil, or dilute them in other ways (like in a bath!).

What ways do focus on self-care when the weather is changing?
