Last month (technically... year!) I had a fun idea. What if I bought myself a 15 pan custom MAC palette and then each month I picked up a new shadow to create my own custom palette over the course of the year? In basically every palette have ever owned there have been colours I don't love. This is my chance to make something uniquely me. I started with four shadows, and each month until the end of the year I will add one more. Follow along as I build the perfect eyes shadow palette.
The palette cost me $10, and the 15 eye shadow pan insert was $3 (You can also get a 6 pan blush insert for the same price) making my start up costs $13. Each shadow costs $12 meaning that once I am done this palette will have costed me $193+tax. The nice thing though is that rather than costing me that much all at once, I can pay for it in $12 increments. Kind of like a payment plan for a palette.
I thought about getting a double sided palette, but when I was in store with my friend Sarah we determined that it was too annoying to open, and that if I wanted to make a blush palette I could easily spend the extra $10 at a later date. The perfect palette needs to be full of beautiful colours, and functional.
I was first inspired to create my own palette by my friend Katherine from The Green Bows. Of course, given our similar sense of style, and skin tones, I inevitably ended up with two of the same shadows she has!
Thankfully I can move the shadows around as I see fit. The placement is roughly where I think they will end up, with the top row full of light shades, the middle with medium shades and the bottom with darker shades. Of course, I don't know what shadows will catch my eye between now and December 2016, but this is my best guess on placement.
Top: Yogurt, Jest
Bottom: Star Violet, Blackberry
I wanted my shadow palette to be functional from Day 1. That's why I grabbed a mix of mattes, satins, light and dark. Over the coming months I will fill in the missing parts to create a palette that has everything I could possibly want.
Yogurt, Jest, Star Violet, Blackberry
Yogurt is a matte, cool light pink.
Jest is a beautiful frosted shadow that is a perfect pop for under the brow, or even on the lid for a more gentle look.
Star Violet is a veluxe pearl is an easy to blend and feels super glam to wear. I love this coppery purple, and can't wait to include it in a dramatic look.
Blackberry is a matte deep plum that will be perfect in my crease.
I know moving forward that I want to include gold, taupe, navy and a brighter aqua shadow in my palette. While it will be mostly neutral, I want to include all of the colours I love. I can't wait to craft something beautiful.
What are your favourite MAC shadows? What ones do I need to add to this palette to make it perfect?
I have been eyeing jest for my collection, looks so pretty! This is a great idea for those people that don't like 1 or 2 colors in pre-set pallets. My favourite mac shade is Sable, its a satin shade from them. It's a gold-plum with a perl shine to it, it's a great all over lid or transition color. Go check it out you may like it specially if your like neutrals.

That sounds really lovely! I will have to check it out :) Thanks for the suggestion!
DeleteThose are some lovely colours! Years ago when Annabelle had their custom palettes I loved picking the colours- it's more special when you've actually got everything you want.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what else you choose in the coming months :)
