mary kay gel semi matte lipstick review

Everybody has a Mary Kay memory, right? Mine is of this bulky pink square palette that my mom use to have. By the time it got to me the blush was all but gone (it was a dusty rose shade) and there was this hideous olive green eye shadow that had completely hard panned. And the prettiest rose blush that only had the tiny crumbles around the pan edge left. And that being said, I loved that palette-- it made me feel like a grown up. I loved holding it and playing with it. Mary Kay has come a long way since the 90s (and really, haven't we all?) and today I am so thrilled to be partnering with them on this post. Keep reading for swatches and a review of their Gel Semi-Matte Lipsticks... and a giveaway!

Retailing for $21 these lipsticks are priced right in that sweet in between spot of the drugstore and higher end products. Similar in price to say, Urban Decay but not getting up there the way Charlotte Tilbury or Dior does.

These lipsticks deliver lasting colour, and are so, so comfortable on the lips! They feel like velvet and leave my lips feeling good. I find that when summer rolls around the corner I leave my matte liquid lipsticks behind and start reaching for glossier finishes. These lipsticks are perfect for that transitional time! While they may have the word "matte" in the name I would describe them as semi-matte at best. I found that Poppy Please in particular has a bit of a satin sheen to it that I really liked. I really liked that the lipsticks come with a clear cap-- makes it easy to find the one I am looking for!

Overall my favourite lipstick from this collection is Always Apricot. It is a touch peachier than Mauve Moment and lately I have really been loving peach  anything (totally Too Faced's fault!). I find that peachy shades look great on me when I start to get a bit of a tan, so I know I will be reaching for this come summer. My other favourite lipstick from this collection is Poppy Please. In the summer I love a good matte orange-red, and this semi-matte finish is just perfect. It looks so bold and pretty and perfect with a smile! One of my favourites is MAC's Lady Danger and this reminds me of a more satiny version of it.

You can buy these lipsticks from Mary Kay's website or from a local consultant.
