I was just starting to enjoy Fall... and then I found out that there are 10 cm of snow at my cottage and that I could see my breath in the cold air this morning. And so with winter creeping up around the corner, cold sore season is also approaching! Today I am here with some products to help fight cold sores, and a little giveaway!
Illness, stress, poor nutrition and a lack of sunlight can all lead to an active cold sore breakout, and for some reason, cold sores just love to pop up when the weather gets chilly.

The Lip Clear Lysine lip treatment & protection balm is really nice. It has a vaguely medicinal, herby-sagey-minty scent to it and leaves behind a bit of a cool tingle. With SPF 21 this is perfect to protect your lips from the reflection on the coming snow, or to toss in your bag for your beachy winter vacay. I find this balm to be really hydrating and perfect to protect my lips from cold and windy Canadian winters. (Side note, I can't believe I am even thinking about winter at the moment...)

Should a cold sore pop up, their Cold Sore Treatment ($7.99 USD, so probably about $10 CAD) is your new best friend.  This thick balmy-gel smells like a stronger version of the lip balm. It offers fast pain relief and stops burning and itching. When I applied it to my dry hands to swatch it I could feel an instant calming effect.

Sometimes treatment isn't enough. That's where their cold sore bandages (photo below) come in handy. Not only do they cover your cold sore, but it also protects and conceals it. You can use them with makeup, or with the cold sore treatment. If you are planning to use it with the treatment apply the treatment half an hour before the bandage. Make sure the area is clean before sealing it up! They feel so comfortable on the lips and don't hurt when you remove it.

Quantum Health has a few tips for preventing and fighting cold sores that I wanted to share with you:

Protect your lips Be sure to apply a lip balm that has an SPF 21. This will keep lips safe from damaging sun rays and infection that attacks chapped lips

Keep stress low Stress is a well-known cause of cold sore outbreaks, so be sure to do a few things in your life to reduce stress. Activities could include meditating, reading a book, going on a walk, etc.

Avoid Touching Lips this includes kissing, sharing drinking glasses and kitchen utensils, and chapstick with someone who has a cold sore

(This one will be hard for me! Better hope my boyfriend doesn't get one, because we end up sharing everything. I mean why pour two glasses of milk for breakfast when we can just share?)

Use Lip Clear Lysine+ Lip Clear is a natural cold sore ointment shown to reduce the healing time of cold sores by half, making it most effective herbal nutrient ointment available. It also soothes and stops pain on contact.

They have also provided me a code that you can use to save 10% off of any Lip Clean order from now until April 2017: HEALTHYLIPS (limit 1 per customer). You can redeem your code on their website.

I was the most impressed with the lip balm that was included with these products. Not only has it been keeping my lips feeling hydrated, but I know it will keep them protected when I am on the sunny beaches in Cuba in about two months!
