I remember when I first got interested in make-up. My first "palette" was a little frosty pink quad from Bonne Belle, and there was quite simply no way I would leave the house with out my favourite Lip Smacker of the week. Well I am a little older now, and my tastes have evolved. I often get asked by my cousins and friends where the best place for their daughter or friend to start her makeup collection. Every time with out fail I tell her to go get an Optimum card and check out Essence!
Each palette comes in a sturdy little cardboard box with a mirror and an instruction kit. It also includes a little application tool, which I used for swatches.
How To Make Bright Eyes
How to Make Bright Eyes is the perfect palette for beginners. It is full of light, shimmery and sparkly pink(ish) shades that won't look too dark, or too much, the way some parents may worry. This palette has very light shades but with enough contrast to create a simple three shadow look. I love "Vanilla Eyes" on the lid, "Team Bright" in the crease and "The Irresistible" under my brow. Wear time isn't bad on these shadows, thought of course would be improved with primer. As you can see from the following swatches, these shades are very light & bright. These shadows started to crease after two hours, however it was hard to notice given how light the colours are.
I am wearing Vanilla Eyes on my whole lid, with Team Bright in the crease and The Irresistible under my brows. I am also wearing Essence Pure Nude foundation & concealer, Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara & How To Make Your Face Glow, with Essence Sheer & Shine lipstick in 02 Cute Nude. On my brows is a new Quo product that I look forward to sharing soon!
How To Make Smokey Eyes
How To Make Smokey Eyes is not as dark and smokey as you would think. After your young make-up enthusiast has mastered "How To Make Bright Eyes", "How To Make Smokey Eyes" is a great next step. This palette has a collection of brown shadows and grey shadows that make for two easy looks. "Dressed Up" and "Glam Star" are my two favourites! With this palette it is all about showing make-up beginners how to strike the balance between using dark shadows, and using too much dark shadow. These shadows started to crease after two hours, but it was more noticeable than on the "How To Make Bright Eyes" palette.
I am wearing the grey trio: Shine Bright is all over my lid, with Rock 'n Roll in my crease and glam star pressed on to the centre of my lid and under my eyes. I am also wearing Essence Pure Nude foundation & concealer, Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara & How To Make Your Face Glow, with Essence Sheer & Shine lipstick in 10 Glamour Queen. As for eyeliner I am wearing Essence Easy 2 Use Jumbo Eyeliner Pen. On my brows is a new Quo product that I look forward to sharing soon!
How To Make Your Face Glow
How to Make Your Face Glow includes a blush, bronzer and highlighter. This palette is the perfect introduction to "contouring" and highlighting for and make-up newbie. The clear winner in this palette, for me, is the highlighter. However the shimmering bronzer and coral pink blush are both lovely! The little brush that they include is a nice little add on! I should note that "Sun Kissed" is a shimmery bronzer and not fit to contour with. However it looks great applied in a "3" shape on the face and does add some dimension.
This is another photo of my wearing "How To Make Bright Eyes" with a greater focus on my total face. I used the How To Make Your Face Glow palette on my whole face. I started by using a big fluffy brush to apply "Sun Kissed" in a "3" shape on my face (forehead, cheek bones and jaw line). Then I buffed "Hello Rosy" onto the apples of my cheeks, and brushed "Glow It Up!" on my cheek bones, nose and cupid's bow.
What do you think of these "How To" palettes? They each retail for $9.99.
These products were sent to me for review. As always, opinions are my own!
