essie retro revival release

So, you may have heard.  The Nail Polish Gods were smiling upon us this Christmas, because Essie's coveted polish Starry Starry Night is back-- and I'm doing a giveaway! Full contest details can be found at the end of this post.

Essie Starry Starry Night, Life of the Party, Sequin Sash from the 2015 Retro Revival Collection.

Back Story:  This summer Essie launched their #essiebringback campaign, allowing us to cast votes to bring back ANY past shade to Canada.  Obviously there was quite a push to see Starry Starry Night back on the shelves, and I am so happy that it is!  In total Essie is bringing back 12 shades, but let's be real.  There is only one that matters.

Some call it a lemming.  Some call it SSN.  I call it beautiful!  All Lacquered Up has a great comparison of the original formula and the new formula, which you can read here.  I wasn't as in the know about this polish when it was first released, and so I have never seen the original in person.  However, ever since I found out about this polish I have wanted to add it to my collection!  So, I can really only speak to the new formula.  In her post All Lacquered Up notes some differences between the new and the old formula-- worth a read.

Essie Starry Starry Night-- I wanted to show you as many different swatches and lighting as I could!

Essie Starry Starry Night -- still so in love.

Starry Starry Night ($7.95) is a beautiful navy/dark blue jelly filled with both blue and silver glitter.  One coat leaves the nail looking pretty blue, but a second and third coat build it up to the complex, deep night sky that it was meant to be!  Entirely perfect for New Years Eve (which for the first time in two years I will be spending with my boyfriend!)-- this would also be great for some fancy evening gala or dinner.

This polish retails for $7.95 on Nail Polish Canada's website (but is currently sold out!), or it can be yours for $30+ on ebay...or you can win one here (details at the end of the post!).

Since Nail Polish Canada offers free shipping on orders over $25, I decided to add two more polishes to my cart.

Essie Sequin Sash

Essie Sequin Sash -- sorry that my nails aren't their prettiest.

Sequin Sash ($7.95) is a rose gold shimmer with a fine gold glitter.  This beautiful blush shade is pretty sheer, and I think looks best with three thin coats.  However this polish will never really be opaque.  I think this is a great neutral polish to wear to work: nude but with something extra.  You can but Sequin Sash here.

Essie Life of the Party

Life of the Party ($7.95) is a red metallic shimmer.  It reminds me of molten lava in the most beautiful way, and once on the nail has a bit of a cranberry hue to it.  I was on the fence about ordering this polish but I am so glad that I did.  I think it is a great fall/winter polish!  You can buy Life of the Party here.

All three polishes were released as a part of the Essie Retro Revival Collection (2015).  All photos feature two coats of polish.  Other polishes in this collection include Bikini with a Martini, Birthday Suit and Cabana Boy.  All polishes in this collection have a special gold burst design on the lid, which is great for owners of the original Starry Starry Night as they can likely retain the insane value of their polishes.  For those of us who just want pretty nails, this shouldn't be a problem.

essie Starry Starry Night Giveaway

To enter just comment on this blog post and answer one (or hey, all if you want) of the following questions:

1) What is your all time favourite nail polish for winter?
2) If you could bring back any nail polish, from any brand, what would it be?
3) What was your favourite thing you did over the holidays?
4) What was the best gift you gave or received for Christmas (or whichever holiday you recently celebrated!)
5) What are you most excited about for 2016?

After the contest closes on January 15th I will pick a winner. I will respond back to that person's comments letting them know that they have won and will ask them to email me (but through out the contest I will also be replying to comments because I love hearing what you have to say!).  If the winner does not get back to me within 48 hours to accept their prize I will pick a new winner until somebody claims it.  This contest is only open to Canadian and U.S. Residents.

The prize one (1) bottle of Starry Starry Night from Essie's Retro Revival Collection 2015.

Good luck and I hope you had a Starry Starry New Year's Night!

Neither Essie or Nail Polish Canada is involved in anyway in this give away.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on two bottles by purchasing them as soon as they were available, and am so excited to have a chance to share one with you.  Contest closes on January 15th at 11:59 PM EST.  I just ask that the winner not resell the bottle, but rather that they enjoy the polish!  I reserve the right to select the winner in any random way I see fit.  Please keep the comments a positive place.  Negativity towards other posters will not be tolerated!

  5. The best gift I received this Christmas was from my husband. He gave me a box filled with a bunch of personally selected pamper items like bath bombs, chocolate, and essentials oils with a diffuser. This year I'm most looking forward to traveling. I'm hoping to go to Vegas this year. Maybe next month?!?

  6. This, yes, Starry Starry Night, better known as SDN- is the one polish I want to get my hands on! I can't tell you how very excited I am that they're bringing it back. I get that it's not exactly the same, but it's darn close and that makes me very happy! Happy New Year from Essie, right? I usually wear dark blues, greens and purples this time of year- they're my favorite. I have been known to rock Ruby Pumps around Christmas, though. It is the one red I truly love! Thanks for the amazing giveaway!!!

This Christmas Santa got my oldest daughter her very first bottle of nail polish! Nails Inc 3D effect glitter in pink. She was very happy to have her own bottle although she still asks me to paint her nails using my polishes :)
