Deal + Event Alert: Sephora at Yorkdale and the Eatons Centre

Thursday 31 July 2014

in
Just got an email from Sephora!

Online and in store, for VIB and VIB Rouge only.  Spend $50 or more and get a deluxe sample of the Marc Jacobs moisture balm, and this collection of lip samples.

I want this.  However I am going to wait until August 4th so I get 4x the points on the $50 purchase.

More exciting news!  On August 8th and 9th Yorkdale and the Eatons Centre are having events.  Check out the details here!

I think I am going to try to go to both...The YSL event looks like a lot of fun.  Best part?  Purchases at these events will qualify for the 2, 3, or 4x the points since it is within the window.  #win

I would recommend calling the store for details.

Will I see you there?

Deal Alert: Murale Spend $100 get $30

I just got this email, and I had to share it with you!  Now, I get beauty deal emails all the time, but if I shared all of them it would take up my whole blog!  With that in mind, I only share deals that look exceptional.

Last time they had a similar deal I was able to spend my points and still get the $30 bonus card.  I am going to ask and see if spending $200 merits me two cards.

July 2014 Empties!

in
Even though I participated heavily in Kalyn Lord's Sample Killah this month, I still managed to knock off a fair number of full sized products owing mostly to the fact that they were 90% done so I buckled down and finished the last 10%.

This month really lacked for any duds.  Sure, some products I liked more than others, but nothing that was so awful that I would never try again.  For the most part this is because I carefully research and sample a product before purchase.  However as previously mentioned these products were 90% done already.  I think I was just holding on to the last 10% because I didn't want to give up the product.

This month I finished 13 full sized items.  Anyways, on to the mini-reviews!

All in the garbage now!  Except the hair mask container.  Keeping it for travel!

On My Face:

Swisspers Organic Cotton Rounds - Maybe Re-Puchase
Nothing special about these cotton rounds.  The next pack I buy will be which ever is on sale or comes with a points promo at Shoppers.  They got the job done, but I mean considering what they are tasked with, is it really that difficult?  These were perfectly fine, but nothing to write home about.

Sephora Honey Mask - Maybe Re-Purchase
I will have a more in depth review coming up shortly.  I loved this mask.  I think it did what it said it would, and was enjoyable to use.  However I also have a Face Shop Honey mask to try which cost $2 compared to Sephora's $8.  Before I commit to a honey mask I want to make sure I am getting the most bang for my buck!

The Face Shop Nose Strip (Aloe) - No Re-Purchase
At $1 this was a great deal.  I didn't notice results nearly as dramatic as my boyfriend who used the charcoal version.  Now, I'm not sure if its because he had more blackheads to remove(okay, he did) or because his nose strip was a better ingredient, but I am going to error on side of caution and stick to the charcoal masks.

The Face Shop Nose Strip (Charcoal) - Re-Purchase
Also $1, I found the results of this nose pore mask to be more dramatic than its aloe cousin.  For this reason I will just be buying the charcoal versions from now on, which is fine.  I bought one of each to see which was better.

Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub - Re-Purchased
Simply put, this is my Holy Grail face scrub.  It smells like delicious sweet almonds, and is rough enough that my skin feels like it is being cleaned yet gentle enough to use nearly every day.  I love this scrub and would recommend it to friends in a heartbeat.  When I had only two uses left I stopped a Sephora on my way home from work to make sure I didn't run out.

Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil - Re-Purchased
Another product which is essential to my daly skincare routine.  Every night after I take off my makeup I take one pump of this product and smooth it all over my face. When I wake up in the morning the oil has observed into my face and my skin is soft, smooth, and radiant.  I love this product and can't see a reason to leave it.

In My Hair

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Perfect Blow Dry Smoothing Cream - Re-Purchased
I'm not one of those girls who has the time to blow dry my hair every day.  However, I love using this product in my hair after I shower.  I find it smoothes my hair and tames fizz better than most other products I have tried.  When I do blow dry my hair I find it does a good job at protecting my hair and keeping it shiny.  I re-purchased this on a Shoppers point promo last week.

Battiste Dry Shampoo in Wild - Hold
Battiste is my favourite dry shampoo brand.  I can usually get it for a decent price at Winners.  I loved how Wild smelled, however had trouble finding it in store last week when I went to buy it.  I ended up buying Blush instead which has a gentle floral smell.  Once Blush is gone I have an Aveeno and a Herbal Essences Mini dry shampoo to finish.  Then I will go looking for Wild again.

Living Proof Primer Style Extender - No Re-Purchase
I like this product, but I don't love it.  For the price they charge I better love it.  I prefer the Marc Anthony product previously discussed if I am being totally honest.  I have a deluxe mini of this product to use up before I am rid of my stock of this product.  I prefer their spray primer from this line to the original.  While there is nothing wrong with this product, I find the results are not spectacular.  I also have quite a  bit of similar products to finish before I can justify buying another one.

Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment - Hold
I have reviewed this product as a part of The Great Mask Off.  I had a great experience with this deep conditioner, however I have two more to review before I pick my favourite or decide to keep looking.  Over all I was impressed by this product, and am willing to purchase it again.

The Awkward "Other" Category

Softsoap Citrus Splash Moisturizing Body Wash - Hold
I won't be buying any body wash for a while.  My collection has gotten a bit out of hand, to put it gently.  I picked this up in a 3 pack from Costco before moving way for the summer.  It lasted two people about two and a half months.  It has a generic fruity blue body wash scent and is neither too drying, or moisturizing.  Not my favourite, but not my least favourite.  And it is nearly impossible to beat on price.  Once I run low (in 10585858 years) on body wash I will ask my dad to pick up another 3 pack.  I still have the yellow and red body washes to go!

Smashbox Love Me Love Paint Pen Eyeliner in Jet Black - Can't Repurchase
This limited edition product was my introduction to the world of eyeliner pens.  Before this I had always gone for straight up gel liners.  This pen is a bit thick for my liking, now that I know better, but at the time of purchase I was thrilled.  I have since moved on to the thinner Stila pen. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't re-purchase this item because it is gone forever.

Julep Oxygen Nail Treatment - Re-Purchased
Some people complain that this treatment makes their nails peel.  I don't find that to be an issue.  I like to wear this occasionally between manicures to give my nails a rest and let them heal.  It has the benefit of not only being good for my nails, but it is also pretty.  To the average person it looks like I just have a simple soft translucent pink nail polish on, while it actually provides benefit to my nails. Win-win!  I snagged my replacement bottle on a great sale from Julep.

The Even More Awkward Category

LUSH Rockstar Soap - Re-Purchase
I love love love love this soap.  It smells like pink.  I have no better word to describe it.  It runs a bit expensive so I only pick it up as an occasional treat, but I highly recommend it.  Since the bar of soap is gone I photographed the little bag it came in.

I am pretty surprised that I managed to finish off this many full sized products this month given all the samples I have been mowing down.  I am really going to miss my wild dry shampoo and my LUSH soap.  But I have some new Lush soaps to try that I can't wait to delve into.

What products did you finish this month?  Any duds?  Anything fantastic?

Mini Beauty Haul: Murale

in
Announcement!  I just joined Twitter.  Follow me @ClassyOnTheRun

Thanks to this haul, I now have over 95,000 Shoppers Optimum points.  Which means that in the next few weeks I will be at Murale knocking 5 or 6 items of my long held wish list!

I picked up Dior Skin Nude Concealer in 010 and NARS eyeshadow in Bali.

Swatch: Bali, Dior

Swatch: Bali, Dior buffed in

NARS Bail
This matte deep brown powder eyeshadow is wonderfully buttery and creamy.  It is also quiet buildable.  I am generally not drawn to dark shadows, however last time I had my make-up done the artist used this in my crease.  I loved it!  This shadow is long wearing and can be used for work and play.

Dior Nudeskin Concealer in 010
I use the Dior Nudeskin Foundation in 010, so it made sense that my concealer should be the exact same colour.  This colour is an exact match for me and does a great job at hiding my under eye bags.

Perhaps not the most exciting haul, but these products are great basics to have for a timeless look.

What have you bought most recently?

My American Shopping List

in
Announcement!  I just joined Twitter.  Follow me @ClassyOnTheRun

I am Boston-bound at the end of August!  I can't wait to go shopping at Macy's, at outlet malls, and at Sephora and Ulta.

Price differences between Canada and the States drive me crazy.  I understand why they do it and that each country operated under a different regulatory environment, but it is frustrating when a product is $5 to $10 more in Canada than it is in the States.

With that in mind, I know I will be picking up a Glam Glow mask in the States, and hopefully a few other little goodies.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (Mood Exposure)
Canada $40~
US $35

GlamGlow Masks (ThirstyMud)
Canada $76
US $67

#19

#49

YSL Gloss Volupte #19, #49
Canada $35
US $32

Alterna Cavier Hair CC Cream
Canada $28.5
US $25

Benefit They're Real Mascara
Canada $29
US $23

All photos from sephora.com

Across those 6 products there is a $29.50 savings, plus the tax savings.

Also-- Chanel, Sephora in Canada doesn't carry Chanel.

What is your favourite thing to buy in the States?

Sample Killah Week 4 Update

Tuesday 29 July 2014

in
Well here we are, at week four!  I will have a mini post on the 31st for the last few days of products.  I think the moving forward I will select 10 or 20 samples to use up per month to help keep my stash small.  It has been really enjoyable to discover new products hiding in my drawers disguised as single use junk packs.

By now you know the drill.  I am participating in Kalyn Lord's Sample Killah using up as many samples of any size as I can.

Let's take a look at what I managed to use up this week!

For My Hair

Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Restoring Repair Shampoo - No Buy
Nothing really to report on this shampoo.  Nothing wrong with it, but I didn't love anything either.  I can't wait to get back to my usual shampoo!

Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Restoring Repair Conditioner - No Buy
Perfectly adequate.  I don't have much to report on.  It...conditioned?

The Body Shop Olive Body Wash - No Buy
I was dreading using this because I am not exactly a fan of olives.  In any context.  However this smell was much more gentle than expected.  Still prefer their honey scent!

Ahava Mineral Botanic Body Wash - Buy When I Run Out
Oh.  My.  Gosh.  This was amazing.  I am a huge fan of Ahava, and have been since I was in Israel visiting the Dead Sea.  Their products are so good for you!  This was no exception.  It had a beautiful, soft, gentle floral scent and lathered up like a dream.

Pantene Curly Shampoo - No Buy
It made my hair slightly more curly?  Noting exciting to report.

Pantene Curly Conditioner - No Buy
Again, this was fine.  I miss my Marc Anthony shampoo and conditioner.  I can't wait to wash my hair on August 1!

Pantene Medium-Thick Shampoo - No Buy
You guessed it!  This was fine.  It did the job.  It didn't suck.

Fekkai Reparatives Argan Oil Shampoo - Buy When I Run Out
It was SUCH a treat to use something with Argan oil in it again!  I love love love this formula but it is so expensive.  I will pick up a bottle as a hair treat one day...until then I will cherish my bottle of conditioner.

Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Shampoo - No Buy
Other than the Fekkai shampoo this was my favourite.  I would buy it if I didn't already have such a great hair product combo going for me.  It irked me that the shampoo was larger than the conditioner though.

Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Conditioner - No Buy
See above.  Loved it, but I love my usual even more.

Keeping Me Soft

St. Tropez Everyday Body Moisturizer Gradual Tan - No Buy
Over all this is a solid product.  However I found it made me streaky and that this was too dark for my complexion.  Guess I will be staying pale!

Nivea Skin Conditioner - Purchase
I really enjoyed this!  I loved how soft it made my body.  I would consider buying this if I saw it on sale or with a points promo.  Not a necessity, but really, really nice.

L'Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream - No Buy
Great product.  But I have enough body butter for my entire family to use daily for the next thousand years.

Random Little Goodies

Bite Whipped Cherry Scrub- No Buy
I love with the smell.  Buuuuut, there's always a but, the scrubbing part just was a huge meh.  I didn't find it exfoliated at all.  I'll stick (sadly) to my Lush scrub.  I wanted so so so badly to love this.

Flower By Kenzo- No Buy
It smelled nice, but I have 100000 other perfumes on my list that I would rather have.  And one lucky perfume will be coming home with me from the Sephora points promotion.

Julep Freedom Polymer Top Coat - Re-Purchased
Great topcoat.  I love the gel look it gives my nails.  I actually have two more on stock pile. I prefer Julep's new top coat, but this one is still a rockstar!

La Petite Robe Noire - Purchased
I seriously have the best boyfriend in the world.  He picked me up the full size one last month.  It looks so pretty on my vanity, I don't want to ruin it.  The full size, of course, atomizes much better than the sample.  I wish I could bathe in this rich, spicy, sexy perfume.

Ojon Hair Oil - Purchased
Bar none, the best hair oil I have ever used.  It smells delicious, and works like a dream.  It manages to tame my stands, protect them, keep them shiny, and not weigh them down.

For My Pretty Face

Shu Umera Cleansing Oil in Brightening No Buy
This is a fantastic product.  But so is Julep's Bare Face which retails for 2/3 the price.

Ole Henriksen Youth Activating Oil - Re-Purchased
This is a cornerstone to my night time skincare routine.  My face has never been brighter, softer, smoother, or generally happier.  I highly recommend this.

Nivea Mattifying Moisturizer No Buy
Eh.

Nivea Mattifying Scrub No Buy
Move along, nothing to see here.

Glam Glow Under Eye Treatment - Buy One Day
Ugh.  SUCH a fantastic product.  Such a painful price ($76).  I want it so badly.  Seriously, it actually fights bags and under eye fatigue.  To stretch out your use of the product use one half of the pod for both eyes.  I might *might* pick this up during the points promo.  Maybe if I win Sample Killah?

Clarins Super Restorative Day No Buy
Nothing special to report.  It did the job, but there are other products I would recommend first.

Bioderma Cleansing Water Purchased In Bulk
I totally fell in love with this product with first use.  Now I have a whole entire stock pile.  Two normal sized bottles and a massive bottle.  Oops?  It takes of make-up like a dream.

Ahava Clear Scrub Buy One Day
I'm not surprised that I love this product.  I wouldn't mind picking it up to use twice a week.  It is stronger than my daily scrub.  I know its for sale at The Bay.  Maybe in the fall!

Make-up

Benefit PoreFessionalNo Buy
I've reviewed this before.  Perfectly fine but I prefer my Hourglass primer.

NARS Orgasm IlluminatorNo Buy
Love the colour, but I think the formula can be finicky.  I am going to buy the standard powder blush in Orgasm though.  Super flattering shade!

NARS Super Orgasm IlluminatorNo Buy
Same opinions as above, however I find the gold flecks a bit much.  This would be great for a night out, but I don't go out much.

NARS Copacabana Illuminator - Buy One Day
I own something similar by NARS called Hot Sand (limited edition colour).  This would be a great winter shade.  I love this formula for highlighting.  I will probably pick this up in the winter.

Make Up Forever HD Primer (Original)No Buy
I like it, but I don't love it.

Face Shop CC CreamNo Buy
This colour was way off on me!  I swatched it and promptly kept it far far away from my face.

Make Up Forever Pressed Powder - Buy One Day
I really enjoyed using this sample.  I have two of the loose powder minis from this brand to use before I can, in good faith, consider buying this product.

Dior C-Total Base - Buy One Day
One day when I have lots of money I am going to buy this.  However it is really expensive, and that day is not today.  This does a great job though.  Love the finish it creates when used as a primer.  Very...velvety? Matte but radiant?

Dior Hydralife BB CreamNo Buy
I like this, but I prefer Dior's Nudeskin BB Cream. They Hydralife BB Cream just doesn't come in the right colour for me.

NARS Face PrimerNo Buy
This product is perfectly fine, but I already have a favourite.

YSL Gloss Volpé Trio - Purchase
LOVE the unique non-doe foot applicator.  Its more so kiss shaped.  I love the pink (19) and magenta (49) shades of this lip gloss, and have them in my buying plan for when I use my 95,000 points at Murale.

Bioderma Moisturizer No Buy
Oops.  Wrong section.  I used this on my feet and didn't notice much of a difference.

Goal - 25

Achievement - 38

Total Samples - 140

Three days to go and I have surpassed my goal by 40 samples.  Let's see if I can use up 10 more by the 31st!  For me the gem of this week was the YSL glosses.  Seriously cannot wait to add those to my (slightly oversized) collection.

How has sample using been going for you this week?

I am going to preface this entire post by noting that samples may vary by store.

With that in mind, let's try to figure out what comes in the (potential) bag!

Here are my best guesses:

1. Make Up Forever Cream Blush Foil Sample
2. Living Proof Primer or Living Proof PHD Hair Cream
3. Laura Mercier Primer or Tinted Moisturizer
4. Dr. Jaart+ BB Cream?
5. Algenist something (probably skincare)
6. Benefit Watt's Up Highlighter Deluxe Sample
7. Escada Perfume Foil Sample
8. Buxom Mini Mascara

Ipsy: August 2014 Spoilers

in
I haven't even been home to open my July bag, and August spoilers are already on the way? Crazy!  I will be back home next Thursday and have been told that I literally have a pile of boxes waiting for me.  Can't wait to open them, enjoy them, and share them with you!

For my August bag I am hoping for some fun stuff.  In a dream world, the bag would be navy canvass with a rustic looking anchor or ship wheel, and the bag would be full of end of summer goodies that just border on the fall.

Wish List:

1. Perversion Mascara
2. Dr. Brandt Pore No More Pore Refiner
3. None.  But the Absolute New York You're the Balm in Grape looks like it is the least awful?
4. Glamglow
5. Maana Kadar Sheer Glow

My Anti-Wish List:

1. J Cat Flying Solo Eyeshadow (oh please no.  I have hated every J Cat product Ipsy has sent me)
2. Costa Scents Blush/Bronzer (Meh.  I already have more than enough of this stuff to keep me happy).
3. I don't want literally any of the lip balms.

Interesting to Note:  The Dr. Brandt primer is found in both spoilers 2 and 4.

Spolier #1 - Urban Decay

I found this spoiler floating around the internet.  Ipsy subscribers will receive either Perversion Mascara or the 24/7 Glide on Velvet Eyeliner in a deep purple shade, Plushie.  My fingers are crossed for the mascara, but honestly, I would be happy with either.

Spoiler #2 Back To School

Best news ever.  This September is my very last "Back To School".  Graduation here I come!

Everybody will be getting one of these.

Dr. Brant Pore No More Pore Refiner (primer)
Lord and Black Black Eyeliner
Costal Scents Eyeshadow Quad (from Wineberry set)
Maana Kadar Sheer Glow
J Cat Flying Solo Eyeshadow (oh please no.)
Costa Scents Blush/Bronzer

I'm hoping for either the Dr. Brandt or the Manna Kadar product.

Spoiler #3 - Lipbalm

Everybody will be getting 1 of these 4 lip balms.

Jersey Shore Sun Monogongo Lip Balm
Bee All Natural Organic Grapefruit Lipbalm
Absolute New York You're the Balm in Green Apple or Grape

Ugh.  I wish IPSY would remember that most of their subscribers aren't 12.  I'm totally not pumped for any of these. BusyI guess the grape balm would be the least awful?  In all honesty this will either be included in my cousin's Christmas gift or donated to a shelter.

Spoiler #4 Beauty History

1. Dr Brandt Pore No More (also in spoiler 2)
2. Paula's Choice Skincare Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 30+
3. GLAMGLOW Youthmud
4. Free Your Mane Reviving Spray
5. StriVectin Present Perfect Antioxidant Defence Lotion
6. Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
7. Cali Cosmetics Evulacano Body Lotion

Fingers crossed for Glamglow!

What's on your August Ipsy wish list?

in
I just got an email from Julep that the Secret Store is open for VIPs (those who ordered their box this month).  They are currently running a promo that if you order $50+ in the secret Store that your next Maven box is free.  There is a lack of clarity over their wording as to if this means you get 2000 jules, or if you have say 1500 jules that they give you 500 so then your total is 2000.  Personally, I don't see much of interest in the Secret Store so I won't be spending $50+, but I am sure that people will have issues with the promo.

What I Ordered:

I wanted to order Kessie, but she is sold out.  I ended up ordering 2 Queen Anne polishes.  One for me, and one for my Grandma, Anne.  I was drawn to the First Class Gift Set.  However I am trying to save my money so I can splurge at the Sephora 4x the points event for VIB Rouge. Also...there is a watch I want.

What are you ordering in the Secret Store?
