My Final Target Haul | Sonia Kashuk & Pixi

Monday 27 April 2015

in

A few weeks ago, Target Canada closed its big red doors for good.  I went in on its very last day to see if there was any Sonia Kashuk or Pixi left-- these brands will be difficult to find in Canada from here on out.  Lucky for me there were bins full of Sonia (not much in terms of Pixi).  However one thing I noticed it that they did not simply have a few bins with a whole bunch of colours.  Rather, they had each bin full of the same product in the same colour.  I decided to purchase two of everything.  One for me, one to give away.  My mom, and my best friend (who recently converted to only using cruelty free make-up) were thrilled!  Keep reading to see what I got.

My VIB Rouge Beauty Before Brunch Haul

Wednesday 22 April 2015

in

Last weekend I went to Sephora with my mom and took advantage of their week-long 15% off sale.  You can read more about the experience, and see what I got in my sample bag here.  I had a blast spoiling myself and picking up a few products I have had my eye on for a while, and a few products just because!

My Top 10 Pastel Picks for Spring

in

I love the theme of this month's Canadian Beauty Bloggers (CBB) guest rotation so much that I couldn't decide between two posts. You can read about my Top 10 Pastel Polish Picks for Spring on Miranda's blog.  Here, I will be talking about my Top 10 Pastel Picks for Spring, including everything from make-up to skincare, nail polish to hand cream!  What can I say?  Its tough when pastels are among your favourite hues.  You can't exactly make a post about twenty things and say they are all your favourites!

Guest Post | Pastel Smokey Eye

Monday 20 April 2015

in
Hi everyone! I’m Jodi and I write about beauty with a side of tea over on Up the Rollercoaster - come say hi! Alanna is letting me take over her blog today as a part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers guest post series with the theme of the month - pastels!

When I first saw the theme my brain instantly went to lilac purple eyeshadow, which I have been obsessed with lately. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought I should pushy myself a bit. So I took so inspiration from Chelle from Makeup Your Mind and attempted a colourful, yet still pastel smokey eye.

Dior Star Review

in

Foundation is one of the most personal pieces of make-up a woman can own.  Think about it:  It has to be the perfect mix of finish, colour, and undertone.  Recently Natalie from Ivory Avenue posted about her top foundation picks for super pale ladies.  I really enjoyed her post, and couldn't help but think about it as I photographed Dior Star for this post.  Foundation is always a bit difficult for me because I am super pale, and neutral.  I find most foundations too yellow or too pink on me, however I have always had great success with Dior's foundation.  My go-to foundation is Dior Skin Nude in 010.  However I wanted to pick up Dior Star so I had a more full coverage foundation on hand for special events.

101 Empties | A Mass Review

Sunday 19 April 2015

in

I have a secret to share with you.  When I manage to gather this many empties it takes me a few days to write the post.  I will write a paragraph here and there until I reach the end.  Sometimes writing this many mini-reviews is daunting work.  There is only so many different ways to say "I liked this product, but not enough to actually purchase it" with out sounding like a broken record.  But I shall try!

Life has been a bit hectic these last six weeks, with my undergraduate degree winding down in the form of countless essays and exams, I haven't really had much time to do anything fun.  Hence why March had less than 10 posts on the blog.

Sephora | Beauty Before Brunch Event Re-Cap

Friday 17 April 2015

in

I am a huge fan of Sephora.  I shop there much more than I really should.  I love nothing more than wonderful deluxe sized samples to test and to take on trips with me.  I love events that really do feel special.  And while this event was nice, it was not amazing.  I should note that I do not blame the location I went to in the slightest!  My experience seems par for the course, and that makes me sad.

ipsy | April 2015

Thursday 16 April 2015

in

The theme for this month's ipsy bag is "Beautifully Bohemian", but they might as well of called it "Cochella".  I am pretty far from being anything close to a Cochella fan (more of a Cape Cod girl myself!), but I love my ipsy bag this month!  I started off not terribly excited, but after getting to test out each of my products I am more than pleasantly surprised.  Before we get into what actually came in my bag, let's just admire the fact that the (pretty) bag is actually a usable size for normal grown up things.  I have really enjoyed their trend away from bags fit for a four year old, and am thrilled that this bag is a useful size. I'm thrilled.  And I haven't even opened it yet.

Julep | Light On Your Lips in "Tutu"

Wednesday 15 April 2015

in

I am such a sucker for lipstick.  Seriously, I was looking through my collection and I swear I only own about five different colours, just from a bunch of different brands.  I'm looking at you, dusty rose and red-orange! I fell in love with Julep's Light on Your Lips formula with both "Chit Chat" and "Stepping Out".  Tutu is a gorgeous ballerina pink.  Keep reading to find out a bit more about this charming lipstick.

Sale Spotted at Shoppers Drug Mart: Nails Inc.

Target may have closed up shop, but there are still great deals to be found!  Yesterday I was at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Princess Street in Kingston when I came across this bin at the beauty check out.

Review | Smashbox Photo Finish Primer in "Light"

in

For the longest time I ignored the other seven or so primer options that Smashbox has, in favour of their original clear primer.  However as proof that samples actually do work, I received a deluxe mini sample of this product a few month back, and fell in love.  Now, it took me a month or two to actually open the product, but when I did I was impressed how it married the smooth texture of the original with the lightweight feel of my preferred mineral primers.  Breaking my No-Buy rule on primer, I purchased this the other day.  (I have a self-imposed No-Buy because of all the free samples I have lying around).  Keep reading to learn about why I love this product so much!  Plus, I will be sharing a money saving tip at the end of this post!

Sunday | Get To Know Me

Sunday 12 April 2015

in

I came across this little get to know you quiz this afternoon at The Cosmetic Critic and decided to modify it a bit.  I don't really feel up to tagging a bunch of people-- but if you want to answer these questions I would love to see your answers!  I am just on a train right now and am out of Netflix to watch.  The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit was a lot of fun to watch.  I basically binge watched it!

Essie "Butler Please"

in

First off, what girl doesn't want a nail polish called "Butler Please"?  I picked up this colour because it is a bight, summery take on my favourite colour: navy blue.  I am thrilled with this polish, and can't wait to wear it once the weather gets a tiny bit warmer!  I'm already starting to swap some creams for pastels in my wardrobe, and it won't be long that I can start to rotate in some bright blouses, and polishes!

Sephora VIB Rouge Event | Sunday

Saturday 11 April 2015

in

Tomorrow is Sephora's "Beauty Before Brunch" event, taking place at Sephora's across Canada (and maybe the States?) from 9-11 am.  Snacks, lessons, samples, and 15% off everything in store.  Yes please!  I am going to be going with my mom to the Bloor Street location in Toronto.  I'm hoping it will be just as good, but much less busy than the Eatons Centre or Yorkdale.

Fresh Sugar Advanced Moisture Lip Treatment

Friday 10 April 2015

in

Winter is (thankfully) winding down which means chapped lips are soon to be a thing of the past.  However that is no excise to lighten up on lip care!  Recently I made a large order from Sephora.com and used code "FRESH" to get this deluxe mini for free (order must be greater than $35).  However, I am so in love with this product that it deserves a full review!

Julep Paradise Collection | April 2015

Wednesday 8 April 2015

in

Every time the 20th of the month rolls around, I can't wait to log on and select my Maven box.  I'll be honest, at first glance I was not too excited about this month's selection.  I tend not to lean towards the brighter colours, so...yeah.

However, I was really excited about the brow product, so skipping was not an option.  Now that I have my box in hand, I am really glad I ordered it.  Keep reading to find out what I ordered, what I got, and for a mini-review of "Don't Leave Your Brows At Home"

Bonus Point Redemption Haul | Shoppers Drug Mart

Tuesday 7 April 2015

in

Shoppers Drug Mart has a fantastic points program.  If you do it right, you can get away with spending about $500 on products to get up to $200 in free products.  I tend to shop at Shoppers for everyday items, from household supplies to nail polish remover, birthday cards to hostess gifts.  By strategically shopping with coupons that they email me, and on 20x the points/18 500 bonus point days I can usually get away with redeeming 95 000 points (the highest redemption level) twice a year.  To get more bang for my buck, I always wait to redeem on bonus redemption weekend where 95 000 points nest me $200 rather than $170 in products.  Keep reading to see what I picked up!

Revlon Lip Butters | My Picks For Spring

Sunday 5 April 2015

in

One of my favourite things about spring is the transition from heavy lipsticks to lighter balms and glosses.  What better to get me into the spring mood than some bright coloured Revlon Lip Balms (that I got on sale for $4.99 each!)?  Keep reading for my top three picks for Spring!

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in "Luxembourg"

Friday 3 April 2015

in

I heard somewhere through the beauty grapevine that Taylor Swift often wears this lipstick.  Given that she and I both share a very pale, pasty skin tone I generally feel that what works for her will probably work for me. What I did not expect was to fall in love with this product in the way that I have, and for it to be as wonderfully flattering as it is!

Julep | The Pop Collection March 2015

Thursday 2 April 2015

in

Nothing has the power to brighten up a day quite like getting a package in the mail.  I was thrilled when this box arrived because I was very excited to test out the lipsticks and the new "soft focus finish" polishes.  Keep reading to find out what I thought of my March box!
