This month's Ipsy theme is "Swim Into Beauty" and where better to talk about it than sitting at the side of my pool (I've been doing a lot of that lately...sorrynotsorry).  This month had some hits and misses for me, so keep reading to see what I got and what I thought!

The bag is a foamy black on the back and a satin black fabric on the front with "ipsy" printed in a different texture.  This bag sort of reminds me of the fabric of a bag you would put a wet swimsuit in after leaving the beach (so I suppose that is a possible use for this bag?).  It is larger than most previous ipsy bags (a promising trend), and is completed with a neon orange-coral zipper.

My products went for a swim!

SheaMoisture Shea Butter Lip Crayon

Ugh this was the dud of the bag for me.  The colour and application was fine (not great, just fine) but the smell was awful!  It just smelled like wax.  Gross!  Give me my vanilla scented Bite or Mac lipsticks please!

Dr. Brandt Skincare pores no more vacuum cleaner

I have not personally tested out this product yet because I don't have a blackhead problem.  However, I did apply it to my boyfriend's and he commented "This thing hurts my nose...is it supposed to?  It must be really acidic".  We were both really impressed by its results, and he said he would use it again because "literally, they're all gone.  This looks much better".  So there you have it, even non beauty gurus notice the difference, so it must be good!   *no boyfriends were harmed in the resting of this product*

Pure Brazilian Miracle Leave-In Conditioner

A miracle would be a product that meant I never got another split end ever again and that my hair magically grew four more inches while maintaining health and volume.  I am sad to say this product did not achieve that goal.  However, it does have a nice tropical scent.  While I have used better products, I like this in that it smells good and makes my hair feel nice.  This is the perfect product to toss in my bag when I take my little cousin to Wonderland!  I love going in the water park, but I hate carrying all of my hair styling tools with me.  I think this would be great to spritz in my hair (and of course let her use!) after we rinse off and before we get back on the rides!

tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in "Aspen Pine'

I like the idea behind these shadow crayons, and bonus points to the brand for really reaching out to users on social media!  The wear is good, however, I don't love the colour I received.  And by don't love what I really mean is I couldn't possibly imagine wearing this colour until at least November.  It is too dark for the summer!  The colour in my preview was a champagne sand shade which would have been beautiful!  I'm pretty sure I got the worst shade of the bunch (the others were nude, gold and brown.  #sadface).

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer

How can the least anticipated product also be the best product?  Well let me start with the fact that subscribers wither got this or a Too Faced Melted Lipstick in a really pretty colour.  I received this foundation primer in my August 2013 bag, and since Ipsy does not repeat products I was sure that I would not get it again.  Wrong.  I emailed Ipsy and they said that while they normally do not send the same product twice, that this product is so well loved that I should be happy to get it again.  However, they told me that they would send me a special gift to make up for it (note: they did not say they would send me the Melted Lipstick).  While the response was not entirely satisfying, I will hold off until I have the replacement product in hand before I make any judgements.  As for the actual product, it is a great primer, probably the gold standard in its field.  I like how smoothly it lets me apply my foundation, but I feel like every blogger ever has blogged about this particular product.  So yeah.

More swimming.

In conclusion I like this bag, but it was not as good as the last two or three months.  I will use the leave in conditioner, and primer.  My boyfriend will get some use out of the blackhead product.  The lip crayon is gross, and the eyeliner crayon, which had so much potential, isn't a flattering colour on me.

  1. Too bad the lip crayon didn't work out, the colour is so pretty! I've been unsubscribed from ipsy for a while, but I got a matte lipstick that smells like crayons. :/ I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but I just end up not wearing it because of that reason. :/ such a shame

    1. Yeah the crayon scent is a huge turnoff. The colour is pretty, but not exactly fun to wear!
