Last Christmas Benefit released a set of four mini dual-toned lipsticks. I recall being curious about them, but I didn't like that you had to buy them in a set (I was pretty much just interested in the nude shades) and I figured what would it matter if I fell in love with them-- I wouldn't be able to buy them when the holidays were over. Well lucky me! They released a full collection availiable in full size for this spring. Keep reading for my first impressions, and lip swatches!
Availiable in eight shades ranging from nude to pink, from red to berry, these lipsticks are easy to apply with a beautiful satin finish* Complete with a custom teardrop tip, one shade lines while the other fills, leaving the lips with a greater appearance of volume and dimension. The goal with these lippies isn't to create a vast contrast, it is to compliment each colour so that together they can compliment you.
*While the finish is described by Benefit as "matte" I think it is a creamy demi-matte at best, and more honestly a satin.
Lusty Rose, Fuchsia Fever
Lusty Rose is complimented with a deeper nude "liner" meanwhile Fuchsia Fever has a deeper pink tip. I was at first skeptical that there would be a clear line between the two shades, but I found that they blended beautifully and once on the lips you could hardly notice it at all!
Lately Lusty Rose has been living in my purse. I have been reaching for it as a lovely everyday colour for work. It sits comfortably on the lips and looks pretty and polished. I have also been loving Fuchsia Fever as a fun weekend shade. When it fades away my lips are left with a pink tint. I felt that my lips looked much fuller with the nude lip duo-- especially in the corner of my lips.
While at first I thought this may have been a bit gimmicky, I am very impressed by these lipsticks and thrilled by how much I like them. I'm really glad that I had the chance to give them a shot!
Benefit's They're Real! Double The Lip retails for $26 CAD and can be purchased at Sephora and Benefit. I have not yet seen them for sale at Shoppers Drug Mart. Two shades are also sold in travel size for $14. These would be a great gift for the busy lady on the go, or for a teenager experimenting with makeup and looking for something fun and unique.
