MAC is the queen of limited edition collections. They always have one on the shelves, and another stunner about to be released. In January they released a limited edition collection of 35 bold matte lipsticks including just about every matte colour you could dream up. Today I am here with five of them, and each one is exclusive to this collection!
I was sent five shades from this collection, and if we are being honest I would say that each of them was outside of my comfort zone. One of the coolest things, in my opinion, about being a beauty blogger is being sent products that you would never buy. Now, hear me out. If I was buying something from this collection it would be pink or red (aka: safe). However as a blogger I get the opportunity to try shades that are so different from my usual.
SO! With an open mind, and lips that are never fully ready for a matte swatch session...
Uncontrollable - Baked Orange
I found this to be the best shade that I tried. Not only is it the most wearable, but I found it had the best formula: matte, full coverage, with an easy application.
Cold Hard Cash - Neutral taupe
I was not a fan of this shade. Not only was the colour not particularly flattering on my skin tone, but it was not as matte as the others I tried. I found application to be a bit splochy.
Gritty Girl - Light cool brown
Compared to Cold Hard Cash this formula was not as full coverage. I found it comfortable on the lips, though patchy to apply.
Deep With Envy - Forest green
I never thought I would be wearing green lipstick... however this was a good formula. Easy to apply, full coverage, and really really pigmented!
Mean Green - Machine green
This shade was probably the most interesting that I tried. At first glance I thought it was black, but it was really a very deep green with a bit of a sheen to it. I had the most trouble getting this one on because there was really no room for error.
When your eyes match your lipstick... wearing Deep With Envy.
Overall this is a really unique collection-- every colour you can think of in their signature matte formula. It launched in January (but as I have mentioned, the move has my posting schedule a bit disrupted) and each lipstick retails for $17 CAD. You can redeem your Back To MACs for these if you so choose. I think I have enough empties waiting to be swapped in for something new.
PS-- these matte lip swatches were made possible by the gentle makeup removal of the Herb Day Lip & Eye Makeup Remover Tissues by The Face Shop. Seriously-- these melt off matte lipstick so gently! A new blogging essential.
Have you tried anything from this collection? Lady Danger is my all time favourite matte MAC lipstick!
Products sent for review. Opinions are my own.
